A takeaway joint's success depends largely on one aspect: how delicious the food is. And of course the time taken for them to deliver the presumably yummy fare to your doorstep. Hoogli, a non-descript, hole in the wall eatery, scored high on both counts.
We ordered: Even though the cooks stirring up the Bengali meal looked North-eastern (did we just see the Bong readers among you squirm?), the food tasted authentic. We ordered the traditional Bengali Mutton Curry, Manghsor Curry (Rs 120); the mutton was cooked till it was soft and succulent. The Shorshey Ileesh (Rs 120), a mustard fish, had a fresh flavour, while the vegetarian Aloo Phoolkopir Dalna (Rs 75), was a Bengali version of Aloo Gobi. It was spicy and went well with the rice and Bengali-style Mushoor Dal (Rs 50).
We liked: We got a chance to peek into Hoogli's kitchen, and found it spic and span. The cooks were preparing fresh rice every time a guest placed an order, is what we managed to notice. It took them 20 minutes to prepare five dishes. We think if you ask for home delivery, your food should reach you in 40 minutes.
