After waiting for over two months, 90 junior nurses recently appointed by the Pune Municipal Corporation health department have received their salary, albeit short by Rs 4,500 to Rs 5,000.

On March 21, mid-day had reported how owing to miscommunication, the nurses hadn't received their salaries for two months ('90 nurses yet to be paid by PMC for two months').
However, nurses told
mid-day that even though they had received their income, it wasn't the amount promised to them as per the advertisement, the civic body had promised.
"Just last week, my salary got deposited. However, I got only Rs 22,000 against Rs 27,000, as per my grade pay and my appointment letter," said a nurse adding, "This is really frustrating."
She added that when they had met PMC Deputy Commissioner (general) Mangesh Joshi, he had convinced them that once the model code was over, he would interact with the state government and provide us with the difference in amount. But, I don't have patience to believe him.
Deepak Kulkarni, general secretary of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh said, "The advertisement quoted grade pay as Rs 2,800. However, according to PMC salary structure it should be Rs 4,500. But rather than matching the grade pay with PMC's structure, they just decreased the basic salary from Rs 9,300 to Rs 6,685. This is unacceptable. We will continue our agitation."
PMC deputy commissioner said, "All nursing staff will receive the difference. Right now, their salaries have been debited according to the state's structure, whereas the PMC's salary band is higher. Once we receive approval from the government, we will give them the salaries." However, he clearly stated that this would only happen after the elections.
