While each year, weekend travellers like to spend their off-days at popular holiday spots like Coorg, Gokarna and Ooty - this year around, they are backpacking to explore other hidden places in and around the city.
According to Karnataka Tourism Development Corporation, the hot travel destinations this year range from trekking spots like Antharagange and scuba diving hot spots along the Western ghats.
"This is the third time I'll be visiting Antharagange for adventure. I'm going along with a team of bikers from college, as we share the same interest ufffd adventure. We're carrying a lot of food and it promises to be a memorable trip," said Anand Raja, a student.
Kumar Mahesh, assistant guide with the Karnataka Tourism department said, "There are plenty of options ranging from forest adventures to beach getaways to choose from."
There are many such camps being organised by various adventure clubs in the city. M Rohit from the Bangalore Mountaineering Club explained, "Our first batch for scuba diving left yesterday, while the second batch will leave today. Adventure is something that people are craving for this holiday season. Since they have just three days off from work, people want to do a lot in that time. We also have many trekking batches leaving today."
Another group of adventure enthusiasts called the Venture Adventure Club are also organising good hiking and rafting trips. "We have had a lot of enthusiastic adventure lovers who've called us for bookings. Our batches have all left. Someu00a0 as early as last night and they will be returning on Monday morning," said one of the organisers.
Chandru, an organiser from the Wild Wanderers Adventure Sports explains, "We've been organising camps for college students this weekend and while many were enthusiastic about going to beaches to spend a silent weekend, others called up for scuba diving."
Planet Scuba, city's only scuba diving trainers are also organising camps across the Western ghats this season.
