The AAP government will install LED lights at 42,000 dark spots identified by it in the national capital, Delhi Home Minister Satyendar Jain said today


New Delhi: The AAP government will install LED lights at 42,000 dark spots identified by it in the national capital, Delhi Home Minister Satyendar Jain said today.

The Arvind Kejriwal government has set aside Rs 1,068 crore in its 2016-17 budget to promote women's security and empowerment in the capital. Government will also create women safety groups for all constituencies Replying to a question over women safety, Jain said that government has decided to install LED lights at around 42,000 dark spots.

While Rs 200 crore was earmarked for the women safety groups another Rs 114 crore was set aside to ensure adequate lighting at around 42,000 dark spots in the national capital. A senior government official said that the decision was taken to save electricity and money.

The official further said that government is also considering replacing existing street lights with LED bulbs along with the 1,260-km long roads that fall under the jurisdiction of Public Works Department in the city.

"Installation of LED bulbs for street lighting purpose on all the PWD roads will help the government save electricity. Besides, it will also save government's money," official further said.
