Following yesterday's MID DAY report (Defaulting tenant may cost AAI Juhu plots worth Rs 100 cr), Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to pay assessment tax to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the next two days from its own account. The authority has decided to deduct the entire sum later from the security deposit of its defaulting tenant, Santosh Enterprises. BMC had decided to auction off two of AAI's prime plots in Juhu to recover the money - about Rs 14 lakh.

According to sources, as per the agreement between AAI and Santosh Enterprises, the latter was expected to pay all the taxes levied on the tracts it has occupied on rent. Top sources from AAI regional headquarters in Mumbai claimed, in order to stop the auctioning process, Juhu Aerodrome authority - which falls under AAI's purview - has been instructed to make immediate payment of the pending tax to BMC.

"On Thursday the regional headquarters AAI Mumbai instructed the Juhu Aerodrome authority to pay the pending amount at the earliest. Instructions have also been given to recover the amount by deducting it from the security deposit of the defaulting tenant," said an AAI official, requesting anonymity.

Sources also confirmed that the security deposit is over Rs 20 lakh and the pending dues worth Rs 14.3 lakh can be easily recovered. They also added that if required, action would be initiated against the defaulting tenant, who runs two parking sites on AAI land in Juhu. Despite repeated attempts, M Yadagiri, director of Juhu Aerodrome, remained unavailable for comment.u00a0
