There are some who don’t agree with my assessment of the English channels on Results Day in this column last Saturday (May 17)
For someone who has been a die-hard Prannoy Roy fan for election results, opinion polls and the Union Budget, I thought its Results Day coverage was disappointing. The format was slow and boring and the selection of in-studio guests on a channel like CNN-IBN was better.
And having found Times Now's coverage on R-Day rather disappointing, I thought the interview last evening of Digivijay Singh was super. Put a soft target in front of Arnab Goswami, and you can be sure of a winner interview. The guy doesn't stop at the tough questions with the guest, he just tears into them.
There was nothing extraordinary with the rest of the fare. Barkha Dutt interrupted Jayanthi Natarajan for having used the word "introspect", something she had heard "155 times" on the day. But while doing so, Barkha was very apologetic, and said how she doesn't normally do that. Messrs Karan Thapar and Goswami, please note.
While flipping through channels at around 8.30 pm, I chanced upon TV 24 and saw an interview with someone who looked much like Narendra Modi. I thought it was Modi's body double, albeit younger.
He was speaking to a very young Rajeev Shukla on Ru-Ba-Ru, a show that the Congress strongman would host on the Zee Network. I watched a bit of the interview where Modi spoke about how he enjoys horse riding, likes to stay clean and dress well.
When asked what watch he wore, he said it was an Indian one "Tit-aan" and then corrected himself to "Titan". And the pen that he carried? No, not a Mont Blanc, he clarified, but something he picks up at a meeting, and then when the ink was over, he would replace it with one from another meeting. Interesting interview. Do catch it on YouTube.
