Six people were killed and over 20 were injured in a tempo crash near the Madap tunnel on Mumbai-Pune Expressway, early on Monday.
The tempo was speeding when the driver is said to have lost control just as the vehicle was coming out of the tunnel. According to reports, the tempo crashed into a telephone post and then a pole, after which it turned turtle.
As per media reports, the victims are mainly fishermen and their kin from Koliwada in Versova, Mumbai. The injured from Mumbai were rushed to the MGM hospital at Kamothe in Navi Mumbai.
It has been learnt that the victims were returning to Mumbai from near Lonavala. They had gone to visit Ekvira Devi temple on ekadashi on Sunday. The accident apparently took place at around 2 am.
One of the deceased has been identified as Vishal Chambhar (30) from Versova. The tempo driver was also injured in the accident.
