Officials from the Crime Branch Unit I arrested a 24-year-old for possessing two country-made pistols worth Rs 20,000 each from the Dias Plot area on Saturday around 5.30 pm.

Ganesh Balasaheb Gade alias Pradeep was booked under several sections of the Arms Act at the Swargate police station, and will be produced in court soon. Pradeep is a resident of Sasane Nagar in Hadapsar.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team of five led by PI Suresh Kekane reached Dias Plot and laid a trap to arrest Pradeep. The team spotted him on the road leading from Ambedkar Junction to Salisbury Park and caught him. "We recovered two firearms that were carefully tucked in the jeans and are investigating why he was carrying the weapons," said Kekane.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Bansode and Assistant Commissioner of Police Vinod Satav.
