Police say foreigners came on student visa but did not take admission in any educational institute
Two Iranis illegally staying in the city for four years and a Cameroon national with a fake passport have been deported by the police. The Iranis, identified as Torkan Hussaini (22) and Mehershad Sadegi (25), were taken into custody from their Bavdhan residence.u00a0The police also arrested real estate agents Pavan Sachdev and Nilesh Kokate of Bavdhan Khurd for helping the Iranis get accommodation on rent.
The agents were booked under Section 188 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The police said the two Iranis used to shift their residence after every six months to give the slip to the police. They said the Iranis used to organise night parties for foreigners in the city.
Drugs trade
The police said that though the two had arrived in the country on student visas, they did not take admission in any educational organisation in the city and instead were found involved in the drug trade. Acting on a tip-off, a team from Foreigner's Registration Office (FRO) of the city police led by Inspector Ram Pathare held the duo at their residence in Bavdhan for questioning. Their passport, residential permit and other documents were checked by the police team.u00a0"Verification of the documents revealed that the two had come to India on student visas, but were not pursuing any educational course in any of the institutes here. The stamps and signatures of their residential permit were also faked," Pathare said. The police also seized a chillum used for consuming narcotic substances from Hussaini.
Pathare said the two Iranis were here to avoid military service in their home country."The two Iranis had been asked to leave India several times. The suspects wanted to avoid the strict army training in Iran and hence were reluctant to leave India," Pathare said. "The Special Branch issued a notice restricting their movements a couple of days ago, and on Tuesday they were deported to Iran from the Mumbai airport in accordance with the order passed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Makrand Ranade."
Fake passport
The FRO officials also held a Cameroon citizen identified as Zomo Yammick, who was deported from India on May 22, 2009, and also blacklisted, but had returned on a fake passport. Police records confirmed that Yammick was earlier deported in 2009 for overstaying and alleged involvement in forgery, but he had prepared a fake passport using the name Tchiegue Flaubert and had returned to India. He was again deported to his country on Monday.
40 deported this year
The FRO in the city has deported 70 foreigners in 2010 and, so far, 40 in 2011 for reasons like overstaying and involvement in suspicious activities. Notices to leave India were issued to 117 foreigners in 2010 for their alleged undesirable activities in the city, while the number for 2011 stands at 82 so far. The FRO has appealed to citizens to call on 020-26128977 or -26208273 to give information on foreigners who overstay or are involved in illegal and anti-social activities in the city.
