A 19-year-old maidservant, Chanda Basappa Pawar, committed suicide by jumping from Maker Towers in Cuffe Parade. The police said the victim jumped from the 23rd floor of the âA' Wing of Maker Towers on Wednesday at 11:30 pm.
A resident of Ambedkar Nagar, Cuffe Parade, Pawar worked as a maid at Ramesh Balchandani's place at Maker Towers. Balchandani is a diamond merchant and lives on the 23rd floor of the building. The victim's body was discovered after the building watchman heard a loud thud. Rushing to the spot near the water tank, he found the woman lying in a pool of blood. The watchman and the Balchandani family immediately identified Pawar and informed the police.
The police have not found any suicide note left behind by Pawar. "We are checking her mobile phone to get any details as to who she was talking to lately. Members of the Balchandani household have told us that she was calm throughout the day," said a police officer. "We are trying to inquire if she was forced into committing suicide by anybody," added the police officer. The victim's family informed the police that Pawar had planned to quit her job from December 1.
