Manoj Chaudhary, who gave up a Rs 8-lakh per annum job with an IT major to join politics, has nowhere to go, quite literally.

Chaudhary made history by being elected to the post of Delhi University Vice-Chancellor this year but courtesy the varsity authorities, he is without office ever since he won the top chair.

The Delhi University Student's Union (DUSU) office at Chhatra Marg has been locked and a new building is being constructed between the Law and Arts faculty.u00a0 MiD DAY reported in July that a six-storeyed building for Mathematics department will be constructed in place of the existing student's body office.

It has been more than three weeks since the new union was elected but no place has been allotted to it for maintaining office.

"We have been running from pillar to post. The proctor has refused to address our complain. As a temporary arrangement we have been provided two rooms near the proctor's office but it's insufficient for the four office bearers," Chaudhary told MiD DAY.

He also raised concern at the way the new DUSU office is being constructed. "The new building has no provision for basic amenities. Plastic sheets are being used for roofing and the rooms are cramped for space."
"It will not be easily accessible either," he added.u00a0u00a0

DUSU vice-president Kriti Wadhera said, "The proctor assured us that the old office will be opened but later he refused to do so. The office bearers will unanimously decide upon a plan of action to resolve the issue."

However, the university officials rejected the students' contention, saying the move was aimed at properly utilising the available space. "The DUSU office occupied a lot of space. We are just trying to put it to optimum use. The plan to construct a new building that will house the Department of Mathematics and lecture halls will help the students utilise the space more productively. We are providing an alternative arrangement from where the student's union can work," Delhi University Proctor Gurmeet Singh said.

Meanwhile, the move has provided a common ground to the warringu00a0 BJP-backed Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad and the Congress-supported National Student's Union of India.

The old DUSU building hosts a 24-hour library that is open to all students of Delhi University.u00a0 While four DUSU office bearers have their separate offices on the ground floor, there are rooms for section officer, cyber cafes and a reading room on the first floor.

The former student's body had proposed to renovate the building with a proper waiting room, reception, seminar hall and other facilities.
