A cheating case has been registered by the police against two people claiming to be online job consultants for duping a 26-year-old from Karnataka of Rs 85,000. The suspects promised the complainant, Santosh Ashok Suryavanshi from Belgaum in Karnataka, a job as an engineer with a reputable company but allegedly did not keep their word. One of the suspects was identified as Aryan Aniruddh, a resident of NIBM road in Kondhwa. He and his unknown accomplices were charged with Sections 420 (cheating) and 34 of IPC.

"Suryavanshi had registered on the job portal naukri.com and had submitted his bio-data as he was in search of a job. A few days later he got a call from a lady and the main suspect Aniruddh, who claimed to be online job consultants attached with another portal called gojob.com," said Police Sub-Inspector Jitendra Kadam of the Kondhwa police station.

The officer said the suspects assured Suryavanshi he would get an engineering job in a reputable company but said they wanted money to process his application. "Under the pretext of entrance and registration fees, Suryavanshi was asked to deposit amounts of Rs 25,000 and Rs 10,000 in a bank account at the Sankheshwar branch of Corporation Bank in Karnataka," Kadam said.

"Suryavanshi had deposited the amounts from the Sahakar Nagar branch of HDFC bank and Kondhwa branch of IDBI bank, in about four transactions which totalled to Rs 85,000. The money was withdrawn from the Sankheshwar branch of Corporation Bank in Belgaum after which the suspects switched off their phones."

The complainant's statement indicates that the bio-data which he had submitted on the naukri.com portal was leaked by some person. "We will charge the suspects with sections of the Information Technology Act also if during investigations it is revealed that they have stolen data," Kadam said.
