Back from Bahrain, Delhi techie shares his experiences and a video of the violent protests with MiD DAY
An official assignment took Nitin Swaroop to Bahrain. The telecom engineer is now back in Delhi, having endured more adventures than he had bargained for. Nitin found himself stuck in the violent protests in the island country.
On one of the days, Nitin had to go to King Hamad's palace for an official task. All of a sudden the highway leading up to the residence was closed as a curfew had been imposed.

Commuters were left stranded for five hours. Once he was back in his room at a four-star hotel Ewa, Nitin saw through his window thousands of protesters gathering at Pearl Square, the epicentre of the anti-regime protests. "I was scared, nervous and excited all at the same time. I took out my mobile phone and started recording visuals of police firing ," he said.
"At two in the night I was once again woken up by noise of shooting. I looked out and saw policemen firing at protesters.
Frightened, I slept with the lights on. When I called room service, I was told to draw the curtains and switch off the lights as anything could happen," added Nitin. The next day he called up his local office who asked him to take a flight back home.
