Au00a0young woman has filed a cheating complaint against a businessman from Kolar district for causing her engagement to be called off by falsely claiming to be her legally wedded husband.
Harika, an engineer, has alleged that the businessman forged a marriage certificate and invitation cards to blackmail her family.
Hailing from Mulbagal in Kolar district, Harika graduated from Jalappa Engineering College in Doddaballapura last year. Her father Ramprasad arranged her marriage with a city-based engineer and the engagement ceremony was on October 23 at Pai Viceroy Hotel in Jayanagar.

Drama at ceremony
While the ceremony was on, the accused Chandrappa appeared along with a team of the Jaynagar police and created a ruckus, claiming Harika as his legally wedded wife. Chandrappa also showed the marriage certificate along with photographs, a rented house slip and marriage invitations.
Harika's shocked parents tried to convince the police that it was all a conspiracy. But the police refused to help, stating that Chandrappa had enough proof to substantiate his claim. The groom's family called off the engagement on the spot, leaving Harika's family facing humiliation.
Harika later visited the police station to clarify her stand and said she had never seen Chandrappa.
The Sanjay Nagar police, who have registered a case of forgery for the purpose of cheating and cheating against Chandrappa, confirmed the charges but refused to divulge further details, stating it would hamper investigations.
"We will let you know soon after we nab Chandrappa," said a senior police officer. "We have launched a manhunt."
Harika and her family took copies of the documents Chandrappa had given the police and went to the Laggere sub registrar's office for verification.
Proof of forgery
The Lagerre sub registrar confirmed that not only was the marriage certificate fabricated but also that Chandrappa had forged the tahsildar's signature and seal.
Even the marriage invitation card of August 26, 2007, had been forged and a check with the marriage hallu00a0 concerned, Manjushree Marriage Hall, allegedly revealed that on that day the marriage held was not Harika's.u00a0
Harika remained unavailable for comment, but in her complaint to the Sanjay Nagar police, Harika said that Chandrappa, who had an old rivalry with her family, was now also demanding money from the family in exchange of all the forged documents.
