But Chitrangda Singh would choose a grounded, stable guy over a man who's all heart. The actress opens up tou00a0 Sunday MiD DAY on love and life
Chitrangda Singh has never played Bollywood by the rules. Just when she had registered an impact with Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, she upped and took a hiatus; now, she is a wife and a mother and has taken up projects with Sudhir Mishra and Akshay Kumar.u00a0

Where did you disappear after your comeback with Sorry Bhai?
There were certain projects that I was supposed to do but the recession hit the industry and they got postponed. But now I'm making up for lost time; Yeh Saali Zindagi is ready for release and I'm doing Desi Boyz (directed by David Dhawan's son Rohit).
Have you ever felt the urge to say 'Yeh saali zindagi'?
Very often. When you plan a film but it doesn't happen or when you are about to start shooting for a film but it gets postponed or when you are all ready to step out and your dress or your makeup artist doesn't turn up. But I don't feel the need to say this phrase when I'm at home or with my family.

What's special about your character in Sudhir Mishra's Yeh Saali Zindagi?
I play Preeti, a struggling musician, who performs gigs at small clubs, but is ambitious. She falls madly in love with a guy (Vipul Gupta) and is ready to go to any lengths to be with him. The film is about the dangers she faces because of her conviction in her love for the guy ufffdthough he doesn't love her! Irrfan Khan plays a character, who is head over heels in love with my character.
Does your character ring true to you? You think women do a lot for love?
This happens to girls all the time. We are emotional fools when we are in love. Men are more practical and that is how women should become.
In most of your films you get stuck between two men. Do you ever feel your character should have opted for the other man instead of the one she chooses?
In Sorry Bhai, I would have gone with the guy who had stuck by my character for so long, and who was much more grounded, rather than the other guy who didn't know where he was going.
Do you ever play golf with your husband Jyoti Randhawa?
I enjoy playing golf. I can sit and watch the game for hours on the TV. I've toured with Jyoti and I've also been his caddy.

Has your son seen any of your films?
No, he's just three-and-a-half years old. It's too early for him to know that his mom acts in films.
So do you drop him at school?
Yeah, I do. He wants his mother when he wants her or he gets angry and shouts back or throws a tantrum like all other kids do.
Were you surprised when you landed a glamorous role in Desi Boyz despite being married and mother of a child?
Mother or not a mother, I'm doing a job where I have to look glamorous ufffd that is the way I look at it. Malaika Arora Khan is the best example.
