A group of Thane residents, led by 43-year-old media professional Shraddha Rai, has initiated a movement to address the ongoing traffic congestion on Ghodbunder Road. Motorists expressed disappointment with the authorities over the emergence of patches on the newly constructed Coastal Road, after a video capturing a bumpy ride from Mahalaxmi to Worli went viral on social media on Saturday. Netizen @EternalDrift, who shared the clip, along with photos, posted, “Mumbai’s $2B Coastal Road Project already showing cracks and patches! Is this the future of our infrastructure? Mumbai rail upgrade: WR shifts another rail line to make way for sixth

From Sunday morning, the direction of the platform for Churchgate-bound passengers has changed with the railways shifting one more line successfully to make way for the sixth line. Passengers going to board Churchgate slow local trains will now have Malad station on their left, instead of the right. Western Railway has commenced the work of laying the 6th line between Goregaon and Kandivli stations and mega blocks are being carried out to undertake work to cut and connect the existing lines. Mumbai: BMC approves Rs 3,246 cr cable-stayed bridge project over Versova Creek

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recently approved the proposal to construct the bridge over Versova Creek, which will connect Versova and Madh. The cost approved for the part cable-stayed bridge project is R3,246 crore, which includes the cost of construction, three years of maintenance, rent of the casting yard, and price variation due to labour and material costs. The BMC has included almost 24 per cent in the contract for cost variation, which amounts to Rs 550 crore. Read more.

Mumbai: Rent controversy leaves Bandra fair stalls empty

The steep rent for stalls at the Bandra Fair has resulted in 35 to 40 stalls remaining vacant on the first day of the fair that started on Sunday. Traditional stall owners, who had previously protested against the high rental rates, claimed that only those with stalls close to the church could afford the steep prices. Read more.

Mumbai: Speeding BMW kills Ganesh mandal volunteer, injures another in Mulund

In the wee hours of September 7, a speeding BMW car struck two Ganesh mandal volunteers who were putting up banners on the roadside in Mulund, killing one and leaving the other critically injured. The accident occurred at around 4 am near Akriti Tower in the Gavhanpada area, while the volunteers, Pritam Thorat and Prasad Patil, were preparing decorations for the well-known Ganesh mandal "Mulundcha Raja." Thane-Borivli twin tunnel project will displace 1.4 lakh trucks’ worth of soil

Work on the Thane-Borivli underground twin tunnel, passing beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, is set to commence in the coming months. The project is expected to excavate around 3.5 million cubic metres of soil, which equates to the capacity of approximately 1,40,000 large trucks. No more free rides on Mumbai Coastal Road

With the final stretch connecting the Coastal Road to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link thrown open for northbound traffic, there won’t be any more free rides. Commuters will have to pay toll at the Bandra exit. On Thursday, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Dy CM Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated one of the connectors near the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Mumbai: 9-foot-long crocodile rescued from residential area in Mulund

A nine-foot-long crocodile strayed into a residential area in Mulund from where it was rescued on Sunday morning, a wildlife welfare group representative said. The forest department control room received a distress call in the morning about the huge crocodile being spotted at the Nirmal Lifestyle housing society in Mulund area, he said. Read more.
