The land in question, initially designated for recreational and sports purposes, was slated for transfer to the BMC through the Collector's office.
During this operation, a total of 63 furniture shops and huts were removed, ultimately making way for a 6.91-acre park space. Local Member of Parliament (MP) Gopal Shetty was present during the operation, emphasizing the civic significance of the clearance.
Over the past two decades, the land had been plagued by widespread encroachments, necessitating this clearing for the development of the Jagewar Theme Park project. Notices for eviction were issued to the relevant shop and hut owners in July 2023.
Although the land for the Vedic Park had been transferred to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation through the Suburban District Magistrate's Office, eliminating the encroachments in Sadar Jagewar was a vital step in the park's development.
Deputy Commissioner Vishwas Shankarwar and Assistant Commissioner of the P North Ward, Kiran Dighavkar, led the encroachment removal action as per instructions. Dighavkar also conveyed that eight shops with proper documentation would be offered alternative accommodation or financial compensation at the department level.
