In photos: NDRF steps in for rescue operations in Vaitarna river, landslide in Palghar

Parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai have been witnessing heavy showers for the past couple of days. An orange alert has been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Mumbai and its suburbs on Thursday morning. Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Wednesday and Thursday conducted two major operations in Palghar area.

In the first operation, the NDRF personnel responded to the landslide incident in Vasai on Wednesday morning wherein a huge mass of rock and soil landed on a room adjacent to a hill in Waghralpada area in Vasai. Pic/NDRF

In another incident, 10 workers of a construction firm stranded in the swollen Vaitarna river were rescued by the NDRF on Thursday. Pic/NDRF

The workers who were engaged in construction of the Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway, had entered the river in a barge as part of their work, but got stuck at Bahadoli due to the rising water level on Wednesday following heavy rains in Palghar district, an official said. Pic/NDRF

A team of the NDRF was called in for assistance which responded timely and rescued all the 10 workers using a boat. Pic/NDRF
