On Friday evening, visitors at Marine Drive were caught off guard by sudden showers that lashed the city after a brief lull.

Some of the visitors at the promenade near the Trident Hotel were seen rushing towards sheds to seek shelter from the sudden showers.

The sudden showers that lashed the southern part of the island city gave the traffic lights a iridescent look.

Since August began, the city has seen a brief lull in rainfall due to weather systems. The city and suburbs began witnessing light showers from earlier this week.

On Friday monring, the India Meteorological Department had forecasted overcast skies with moderate spells of rain or thundershower in city & suburbs.

The Met Department said that there was a possibility of heavy rainfall towards night/ early morning hours.
