Sada Sarvankar refused to withdraw his nomination for the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024
The last date for withdrawing nominations for the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024 was November 4
He wll be fighting from the Mahim constituency against Amit Thackeray, the son of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray
Sarvankar will be contesting from the Shiv Sena. Both his party and the BJP, which is in a ruling alliance with the Sena, have urged the veteran politician to withdraw his nomination to enhance Amit Thackeray's chances of victory
Sarvankar had, however, stayed adamant over his decision to fight from the Mahim seat
On Monday, he went to meet Raj Thackeray to discuss the issue. However, the MNS chief refused to meet him, Sarvankar claimed
While speaking to reporters at Shivaji Park, Sarvankar said after Raj Thackeray refused to meet him, he made a final decision of not withdrawing his candidature on the last day to do so
Several posters have appeared in Dadar, showing support for Sarvankar as he campaigns for the Mahim seat
Meanwhile, away from the political tussle going on between Sarvankar and his party, enjoyed a game of football with local youth at Chowpatty
Amit will be making his electoral debut in the Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024
The BJP has given its support to Amit Thackeray. Although MNS is not part of the Mahayuti alliance, it had supported the ruling coalition in Maharashtra during this year's Lok Sabha elections
Later in the day, Amit Thackeray also campaigned in Mahim
MNS had won only one seat in the previous state election and it looks to better its tally this time
This third big name for the Mahim seat, Mahesh Sawant, also campaigned on Monday
Sawant will be fighting the polls from the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray)
Interestingly, Sawant started his political career under Sarvankar in the undivided Shiv Sena
Sawant spoke to locals during his campaign. The other candidates vying for the seat are Sudhir Bandu Jadhav (Bahujan Samaj Party), Farooq Saleem Syed (Bahujan Republican Socialist Party) and Nitin Ramesh Dalvi, who is fighting as an Independent
Amid the tussle between Sarvankar and Amit Thackeray, Sawant hopes to gain some advantage
The Maharashtra Assembly Elections will be held in a single phase on all 288 seats on November 20
The counting will be held on November 23
