Mumbai motorists have been experiencing severe difficulties for the past two years while commuting on the Kandivali stretch of WEH owing to the Akurli subway work
On Wednesday, Union Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the Akurli Bridge after the widening work on it was completed

The barricades placed on WEH owing to the Akurli subway work had caused only two of the four lanes to remain open for motorists. This led to a bottleneck for vehicles plying towards Borivali and Dahisar
Two other lanes would be opened up during peak traffic hours but it did not give much respite to commuters
Vehicles would take up to an hour at times to cross the 2-km stretch between Malad and Kandivali
After inaugurating the Akurli bridge, Union Minister Piyush Goyal emphasised that the structure and its timely completion underscores the commitment of the Modi government's to expedite infrastructure projects
Piyush Goyal recalled his promise to finish the bridge within the first 100 days of the new term of the Modi government, to alleviate the city's traffic congestion
The completion of the bridge is likely to ease traffic woes for commuters in the evening peak hour also
