The India Meteorological Department had predicted ‘light to moderate spells of rain’ in Mumbai and its suburbs and issued a ‘green’ alert. The weather agency had previously said that central and southern parts of India will receive rainfall after experiencing driest August since 1901.
Amid the showers, people were seen gorging on piping hot ‘vada pavs’ from the famous food joint Aram, opposite the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.
The commuters who were caught unawares with the showers used handkerchiefs and saree’s pallu (lose end of the saree) to safeguard themselves.
The Oval Maidan which is usually bustling with people practicing sports was rather empty and covered in green grass as it rained over the city.
Even as it poured heavily, the civic workers remained undeterred as they continued working on mending a broken part of a street near Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s headquarters.
