While the subway is closed to vehicles, pedestrians are still making their way through the area despite the disruption.

The demolition work on the Akurli subway was undertaken since it will be widened thus creating temporary inconvenience for commuters.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the Akurli Bridge on the Western Express Highway (WEH), which aims to address traffic congestion and provide relief to Mumbaikars.

The long-delayed Akurli Bridge project was expedited thanks to Minister Piyush Goyal's intervention, allowing it to be completed within 30 days of a key meeting with the BMC.

The completion of the Akurli Bridge is expected to save commuters both time and fuel by resolving a critical traffic bottleneck on the WEH.

Minister Goyal credited the timely completion of the project to frequent meetings with relevant stakeholders, ensuring that the project stayed on track.

Goyal also directed the MMRDA and traffic police to expedite the widening of the Akurli underpass, with the aim of completing the work by early October without causing additional traffic issues.

Mumbai North MP Goyal has also instructed that the Coastal Road extension to Bhayandar should be accelerated to further alleviate traffic congestion in the region.

Goyal highlighted that the completion of the Akurli Bridge underscores the Modi government’s commitment to speeding up infrastructure projects in Mumbai.

For the past two years, motorists in Mumbai faced severe delays while commuting on the Kandivali stretch of WEH due to ongoing work on the Akurli Bridge.

The barricades placed on the WEH during the subway widening work were removed after the inauguration of the Akurli Bridge, easing traffic flow.

Due to the Akurli bridge work, only two of the four lanes on WEH were open for traffic, leading to a bottleneck towards Borivali and Dahisar.

The newly inaugurated Akurli Bridge is expected to ease traffic woes for commuters, particularly during the evening rush hour, providing much-needed relief.
