Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday took a ride in a Mumbai local train.

According to Central Railway's social media post, she travelled from Ghatkopar to Kalyan and back. 

During the ride, the minister interacted with the passengers travelling with her. 

Sitharaman also posed for the shutterbugs and took selfies with the commuters. 

The Union Finance Minister was also seen posing with the Railways staff in some of the photos.

According to CR's statement, she had also engaged with the station staff when she took the local train ride.

During her conversation, she emphasised on the government's commitment to make public transport more reliable. 

The Finance Minister, per reports, was received by BJP MP Manoj Kotak at the Ghatkopar Railway Station. 

Sitharaman's office took to X (formerly Twitter) to share glimpses from her journey in the local train. 

Sitharaman, who also inaugurated Birla Institute of Technology And Science (BITS) campus in Kalyan, said that the government is committed to the principle of 'innovate from India to innovate for India'.

The Union Minister also stated that the growing nation (India) also benefits from the contributions across various sectors through skilled youth.

The minister, in November last year, took a ride in Vande Bharat and interacted with the passengers.

She was accompanied by Minister V Muraleedharan during the journey, she had said in a social media post.

Sitharaman's local train ride came ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. It is being seen as a part of BJP's maneuvering of their image ahead of the elections. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi too have previously travelled in several trains and metros following its inauguration; he has also interacted with commuters.
