The AC double-decker e-bus has a capacity of carrying 78 commuters and unlike the normal double-deckers, will have doors on both sides. Lokesh Chandra, general manager of BEST said the first bus will run on the Kurla-Santacruz route, however, similar buses will be deployed on other city routes that have a high footfall during peak hours
As the number of buses will increase in the coming months, BEST has decided to deploy the buses on other routes that have a huge footfall during office hours including Colaba depot, Majas depot, and Kurla depot
The AC double-decker e-bus will also have a digital tap-in tap-out ticketing service available for commuters. CCTV cameras are installed in the bus for the safety of the passengers
The 200 buses to be introduced by BEST this year, will reduce BEST’s carbon footprint and will also save around 26 million litres of diesel per year, confirms Chandra
The BEST officials mention that they are expecting to receive more buses batch-wise. In the financial year 2023-24, BEST is planning to introduce around 4,000 e-buses in the city which include around 200 AC double-decker e-buses
