Borivali railway station was crowded on Wednesday as passengers faced long wait for their outstation trains due to a derailment near Palghar.

Western Railway officials had cancelled 41 trains, partially cancelled 28 trains, diverted 12 trains, and rescheduled 22 trains as a result of the incident.

Seven wagons of the goods train derailed near Palghar, causing significant damage to tracks and overhead equipment. The train was transporting iron coils from Visakhapatnam to Karambeli in Gujarat.

The derailment affected Mumbai-bound trains from Gujarat, leading to delays and disruptions in train services.

Restoration work commenced immediately after the incident, with railway authorities deploying labourers and machinery to clear the site and repair the damaged tracks and equipment.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported as a result of the derailment, although the incident caused considerable inconvenience to passengers.

Mumbai local train services to and from Dahanu Road, in Palghar district, were expected to resume by evening, easing the commute for local passengers.

Railway officials confirmed that restoration work was ongoing without interrupting train movements, with senior officers monitoring the progress at the site.

Approximately 250 labourers, along with hydra cranes, earth excavating machines, and other heavy machinery, were deployed to expedite the restoration process.

Despite the challenges posed by the derailment, railway authorities ensured the continued operation of trains along the affected route, with both down and up direction trains being managed on temporary single lines.
