Fireworks go off at Dadar's Shivaji Park, captivating the locals

For the past few days, Mumbaikars have been witnessing a colourful array of fireworks at Shivaji Park

The night sky is illuminated with vibrant colours as families and friends come together to celebrate the festival and burst crackers 

From sparklers to grand aerial displays, the variety of fireworks adds excitement to the festivities. Apart from Mumbai, several other cities of India also put up a versatile display of fireworks

Social media is flooded with photos and videos of the spectacular fireworks displays during Diwali across the country. On Wednesday, Ayodhya put up a colourful display of fireworks, drone show and lit up more than 25 lakh diyas as a part of the Diwali festivities 

The display of fireworks and cracker explosions will continue until Tulsi Pooja, the last day of Diwali

Politicians across the country have extended their Diwali wishes

The festival marks the return of Lord Ram to his of Ayodhya after completing his 14-year exile

As the festival holds great religious significance, it is celebrated on a large scale globally, with the Indian diaspora holding several cultural and religious events on Diwali

Fireworks are an integral part of Diwali celebrations, symbolising the victory of light over darkness. Like every year, this year too, the festival was celebrated with great fervour in the financial capital

Meanwhile, PM Modi celebrated the festival with the soldiers this year, too. He visited Kutch and offered sweets to the BSF personnel posted on the Indo-Pak border

PM Modi also met President Droupadi Murmu and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar to convey his Diwali greetings to them

The festival is seen as a celebration of the victory of good over evil

Dressed in traditional attire, people greeted each other, exchanged sweets and gifts, and visited temples

Most major markets across the country were vibrant and bustling until late Wednesday night with people flocking to buy new clothes, sweets, firecrackers and other festive items

The festival is celebrated in a diverse fashion across the country

In the North, more than 20 lakh devotees gathered at Chitrakoot on the border of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of Diwali. It is believed that Lord Ram spent the better part of his 14-year exile at Chitrakoot, located on the banks of the Mandakini river

In the coastal state of Goa, the celebrations took off after the burning of Narakasur demon effigies in the early hours

Almost every home is lit up with colourful lights and lanterns

At Marine Drive, Mumbaikars burst crackers to celebrate Diwali, with the festivities continuing late into Thursday night

The sound and light of firecrackers create a vibrant atmosphere, bringing joy and excitement to the Diwali festivities

Popular types of firecrackers include sparklers, rockets, fountains and ground chakras, 

Many socio-cultural events are held to mark Diwali, with locals participating in charitable activities and generous donations

The festivities mark an occasion for family members to bond with each other 

Amid the celebrations, there are also concerns of air and sound pollution

While several states have put a ban on crackers, some have made it mandatory to burst only green crackers
