Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation strike, demanding salary hikes, intensified on its second day, causing significant disruption to bus services.

Out of 251 bus depots across Maharashtra, 96 were completely shut down by the afternoon of the second day, with an additional 82 partially shut. This has caused major inconvenience for passengers.

The strike has left passengers stranded, particularly as the Ganesh festival approaches, when many rely on MSRTC buses to travel. The disruption has been especially severe in the Marathwada and North Maharashtra regions.

The strike's effects are spreading rapidly, with 26 depots in Marathwada and 32 in North Maharashtra completely shut down, further straining transportation options for residents in these areas.

Despite the widespread strike, the premium e-Shivneri bus service between Mumbai and Pune remains operational, providing some relief for travellers on this route.

In response to the strike, MSRTC is planning to hire drivers on long-term contracts to keep services running. They have invited bids from agencies to supply qualified drivers.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has called for a meeting with MSRTC trade union leaders to try to resolve the ongoing strike and minimise its impact on public transport.

The strike has also affected the operation of extra buses scheduled for the Ganesh festival. Over 1,000 buses meant for the Konkan region were disrupted, causing further issues for festival-goers.

An industrial court has declared the strike illegal and ordered employees to return to work. MSRTC has instructed local authorities to take action against those obstructing willing employees from resuming duty.
