The fire escalated to a Level IV indicating its severity; Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), along with the police, BEST, ward staff, and 108 Ambulance services, were promptly mobilised to address the fire.
The fire, confined to a large stock of wood and electric wiring, has also impacted shops and hotels in the vicinity, covering an area of approximately 7000 to 8000 square feet.
Due to the spreading flames, nearby Platinum Mall and a high-rise building have been evacuated as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of occupants.
The fire has caused damage to the stock of wood, chemicals, and structures, spanning across the ground and upper floors, affecting an estimated 400 to 500 shops/hotels in the area.
Amid the firefighting, officials found the charred body of an unknown male in the bathroom at the premises. An inquiry is underway to ascertain any other injured or missing individuals.
Following the discovery of the charred body, emergency medical services swiftly responded, and the deceased person was taken to JJ Hospital.
In the interest of public safety, due to the flames, people from nearby high-rise building and Platinum Mall were evacuated to ensure the protection of residents and visitors in the vicinity.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire with ongoing efforts to assess the situation and manage the aftermath of the same.
