The officials rescued about 33 people from various places of the premises including parapet, rooms, terrace and staircase, etc. The fire was completely controlled at around 4:59 pm, the BMC said.

As many as six people were shifted to a hospital due to suffocation. The condition of all admitted in the hospital is said to be stable, the BMC said.

The fire was confined to electrical wiring, garbage and scrapped household materials in an open duct from the ground to 12th floor level and also to the wooden door on the terrace, the BMC said.

According to the BMC, the incident was reported to the officials at around 2:43 pm on Saturday, following which the fire brigade rushed to the spot.
