Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis also submitted their resignations to the Governor earlier in the day. The Mahayuti alliance secured a decisive win in the recent assembly elections, cementing its dominance in the state.
The Bharatiya Janata Party emerged as the largest party in the state assembly, winning 132 seats, making it a key player in selecting the next Chief Minister. Current Deputy CM and two-time Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is being considered a strong candidate for the top post, given his political experience and leadership within the BJP.

Despite its win, the Mahayuti alliance has yet to finalise its Chief Ministerial candidate, with leaders from all three parties engaged in discussions. Former Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar confirmed that Shinde would serve as the caretaker CM until the new government is formed.

In a post on X, Shinde requested his supporters not to gather in Mumbai in his favour, urging Shiv Sena workers to avoid public displays of support. Shinde reiterated that the Mahayuti alliance remains strong and committed to forming a government that works for a prosperous and stable Maharashtra.
In an open letter, Fadnavis expressed gratitude to the people for trusting the Mahayuti alliance, promising a progressive and inclusive future under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. The Mahayuti coalition’s leadership discussions signify a critical moment in shaping the future of Maharashtra's political landscape.
