Dr Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, died on this day in 1956. This day is observed as the Mahaparinirvan Diwas by his followers
Every year, a large number of people visit the Global Vipassana Pagoda, to pay tributes to the social reformer on his death anniversary as per traditions
Additionally, devotees also visit Chaityabhoomi, the final resting place of Dr Ambedkar, at Shivaji Park in central Mumbai's Dadar area
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) made several arrangements and put in place facilities like RO plants to make available clean drinking water to visitors
It has set up pink toilets for women, Hirkani Kaksha (rooms) for women to feed their babies, and mobile charging points, among others
Earlier on Friday, several Indian leaders, including the Prime Minister, and Vice President paid tribute to Babasaheb Ambedkar's legacy
The PM Modi visited the Parliament House Lawns in New Delhi, where he joined other leaders, including VP Jagdeep Dhankhar, Former President Ram Nath Kovind, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, in paying respects to the legendary social reformer
On this occasion, PM Modi shared a heartfelt post on social media platform X, where he said, "On Mahaparinirvan Diwas, we bow to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of our Constitution and a beacon of social justice. Dr. Ambedkar's tireless fight for equality and human dignity continues to inspire generations. Today, as we remember his contributions, we also reiterate our commitment to fulfilling his vision"
