This year, Ganeshotsav, also known as Ganesh Chaturthi, is on September 7

The festival is marked with the installation of Lord Ganesha's clay murtis (devotional representations of a deity) privately in homes and publicly on elaborate pandals (temporary stages) and is enthusiastically celebrated in Maharashtra

Ganesh Chaturthi, in Hinduism, is a 10-day festival marking the birth of the Lord Ganesha, the god of prosperity and wisdom

It begins on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of the month of Bhadrapada (August-September), the sixth month of the Hindu calendar

Ahead of this year's Ganeshotsav, the BMC announced that public Ganesha Mandals who have been following government rules in the last ten years will be given permission for five consecutive years for building mandap
