The Dahi Handi event organised by Social Activities Integration (SAI) on Krishna Janmashtami aimed to bring joy to children from underprivileged backgrounds.

SAI’s mission includes uplifting women from marginalised communities, especially those involved in sex work, making this event significant for social empowerment.

The event garnered attention with the presence of notable figures like SAI director Vinay Vasta, Bollywood actor J Brandon Hill, and entrepreneur Virendra Gupta.

Dahi Handi is a central part of Janmashtami celebrations in Maharashtra, where human pyramids are formed to break pots of curd and butter, symbolising Lord Krishna's playful nature. The tradition is a joyous occasion that brings communities together.

Janmashtami is an important Hindu festival marking the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu.

Celebrated across India, the festival is known by various names such as Gokulashtami, Dahi Handi, and Shri Krishna Jayanti.

On Janmashtami, devotees observe fasts, perform pujas, and participate in prayer ceremonies at homes and temples.

In places like Mathura and Vrindavan, the festival includes grand processions, cultural programmes, and Raas Leelas.
