The Blue Button jellyfish is characterised by its vibrant colour and has a distinctive appearance

It is a species that typically drifts in open waters. However, the high tide in Mumbai on Wednesday led to a significant number of these jellyfish being washed ashore

In a similar incident last year, in light of incidents of people getting stung by jellyfish at Juhu beach , the BMC had issued an advisory for citizens to take precautions while venturing into the sea

The civic body in its advisory had asked citizens not venture into the sea without clothes and wear gumboots on the beach

A sting from the jellyfish can cause a surge of electricity, a burning sensation, itching and swelling, according to experts

The children were also advised against entering the water last year
