Ganesh Chaturthi, one of the most significant Hindu festivals, will be celebrated from September 7 to September 16 in 2024, with elaborate rituals and community events.
The processions of Ganpati idols to pandals in Mumbai symbolise the welcoming of Lord Ganesha into homes and communities, heralding wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings.
The grand processions reflect the festival's message of unity, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to celebrate their shared cultural heritage.
The idols are installed in pandals with the Pranapratishtha ritual, where devotees perform prayers and offerings, invoking Lord Ganesha's presence and blessings.
Thousands of devotees join the processions, singing bhajans, performing aartis, and chanting "Ganpati Bappa Morya," creating an atmosphere of joy and devotion.
The pandals, where the idols are housed, become centres of cultural activities, hosting daily pujas, music, dance performances, and communal meals.
The festival culminates on Anant Chaturdashi, when the idols are carried in grand processions for immersion, symbolising the return of Lord Ganesha to his celestial abode.
The most auspicious time to perform the Ganesh Chaturthi puja on September 7 is during the Madhyahna period, from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
Maharashtra, particularly Mumbai, is renowned for its grand Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, where processions and pandals play a central role in the festivities.
In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on eco-friendly idols and sustainable practices during the processions.
The processions are marked by vibrant displays of devotion, with elaborately decorated idols, colourful attire, and rhythmic music filling the streets of Mumbai.
Months of preparation go into crafting the idols and organising the processions, showcasing the dedication and meticulous planning of the artisans and community organisers.
Ganesh Chaturthi processions are not only a religious event but also a significant social occasion, fostering community bonds and celebrating the spirit of togetherness in Mumbai.
