Mumbai: Three members of Kapole society board resign over corruption allegations

After mid-day reported about the accusations of corruption levelled against the office-bearers of Kapole Cooperative Housing Society (CHS), three members tendered their resignation, stating they do not want to be part of the committee that faces such grave allegations. Author Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi and three other residents had alleged irregularities in the conduct of the society office, and some members were accused of refusing to allow owners from accessing their own property papers. Mumbai: 28-year-old man stabbed to death in Juhu, accused arrested

A 28-year-old man was stabbed to death during a scuffle in Juhu area of Mumbai, a police official said on Friday. The incident took place on Wednesday night in Ambe Mata chawl in Nehrunagar and the deceased has been identified as Suraj Kanojia, he said.

Ugandan woman hides cocaine, heroin capsules inside her body; held in Mumbai    

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai zonal unit nabbed a Ugandan national concealing drugs such as cocaine and heroin in capsules inside her body. The officials recovered 64 capsules recovered from her body, which contained 535 grams of heroin and 175 grams of cocaine worth Rs 3 crore, the NCB said.

Mumbai man, repeat offender, gets death penalty for rape and murder of minor

A special POCSO Act court here on Friday awarded death penalty to a 33-year-old man for the kidnapping, rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl in the city in 2019. The capital punishment was being given to Vadivel Devendra, the accused, as "reformation is impossible", said judge H C Shende in the order.

 

Mumbai: Marathi signboards deadline extended to June 30 now

The BMC has extended the deadline for compliance with the Marathi signboards order for shops and establishments. After the state government’s decision, the civic corporation had set a deadline of May 31, which it had later extended to June 10 and now after consultation with shop owners at ward level meetings, there will be no action on non-Marathi signboards at least till June 30.

Mumbai: Parents demand money back after Mulund school's opening postponed for third time

Hundreds of parents of children at The Green Acres Academy (TGAA) in Mulund, outraged that the school’s new building’s opening was postponed for the third time, demonstrated outside it on June 2, demanding an explanation from the administration. While some parents have demanded that the school refund their money, a majority have said that it must start offline classes from rented premises at the earliest.

Mumbai: Relief from flooding unlikely for motorists as BMC yet to upgrade major traffic junctions

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation claims to have tackled 282 flooding spots but motorists are unlikely to get much relief this monsoon as the civic body is yet to upgrade major traffic junctions that get inundated during heavy rain. A majority of such spots—44—are in the western suburbs, shows BMC data.
