Along with elation, extreme chaos unfolded as the Team India victory parade bus passed from NCPA to Wankhede Stadium.
Marine Drive turned into a sea of fans, footwear, bottles and placards while some eager fans also climbed up cars, trees and roofs of eateries along the route.
The police were struggling to control the crowd that turned up in such large numbers and ongoing Assembly session only exacerbated the issue.
A resident of a Marine Drive told mid-day that a stampede was imminent and that the city authorities appeared unprepared.
Another resident lamented that cars in their building and in those nearby were damaged as fans stepped atop the vehicles.
The resident said that some residents were left with broken windows, and mirror antennas and were seeking to know who would pay the damages.
The parade bus, that left Wankhede at 4.30 pm could barely move by 20 meters in two hours due the large amount of crowd gathered at the Marine Drive.
Meanwhile, police sources told mid-day that at least 10 persons were injured during Team India victory parade.
Police sources said that they took them to GT Hospital. Eight others were let out after treatment, and two others were admitted of which one had suffered a fracture and the experienced breathing problems.
