Gawli, who is serving a life term in Nagpur’s Central prison for murder of Shiv Sena corporator, is presently out on a 28-day furlough. Furlough is a leave from prison every convict is entitled to unless there’s law and order threat.

Dagdi Chawl is a well-known locality situated in the Byculla area of Mumbai and is often associated with the history of Mumbai's criminal underworld.

Dagdi Chawl was Arun Gawli’s stronghold during the days he was a gangster and it was his base of operations. After he metamorphosized into a politician, he has since then represented the locality as political leader.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant was also spotted at the Dagdi Chawl pandal on Friday. Gawli and Sawant were also seen interacting with each other and were all smiles during their brief meet.

Navratri celebrations in Mumbai kicked off on October 15 with much pomp and will culminate with Dussehra on October 24.

During Navratri, people worship Goddess Durga and her avatars and it symbolises triumph of good over evil.
