Famous Mumbai hotspots wear a deserted look amid Coronavirus lockdown

Prime Minister Narendra Modi imposed a 21-day nationwide lockdown from March 25 to contain the spread of the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak. The lockdown led to people being confined to their homes, permitting only essential service personnel such as healthcare workers, municipal staff and the police officers to be out for work. Amid the lockdown, some of the major hotspots in Mumbai have also been wearing a deserted look. The Girgaum Chowpatty, a usual hotspot for tourists, working professionals and students of nearby college, has been wearing a deserted look since the lockdown was imposed by the state and centre in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.

BMC Headquarters

The archaic stretch comprising the legendary BMC Headquarters, CSMT railway station which has been one of the selfie points for Mumbaikars and tourist for its equisite architecture, is uncannily deserted since the lockdown.

Gateway of India

The iconic Gateway of India, that has been a symbol of the city and one of the must-visit tourist attractions of the city has had a  legacy of being featured in infinite number of films and television show. But even as the structure wears a deserted look due to the lockdown, its structure proudly stands tall for its people. 

Marine Drive

A 'chill' zone for working professionals, tourists and locals alike, the Marine Drive, also known as the Queen's Necklace for its beautiful streetlit view at night, has been empty with no visitors. But the recent sightings of dolphins in the sea near this stretch has generated curiosity among Mumbaikars.

Juhu Beach

Juhu Beach has been a part of almost every Mumbaikar's childhood memories. But amid the lockdown it has been sealed with the barricades placed by the police.

Sanjay Gandhi National Park

The Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali has been a haven for nature enthusiasts and animal lovers. Now amid the lockdown, visitors are not allowed to enter in order to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

Bandra Bandstand

This suburban sea-side promenade has seen a crowd of college students, tourists and lovebirds visiting in the evenings. Now the attraction has not been having visitor since the lockdown was announced. 

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport

One of the busiest places in the country, the airport has not been having many passengers other than just cargo flights carrying essential supplies

Dadar Flower Market

The popular and busiest wholesale market with a huge number of stalls selling fresh flowers and vegetables has been empty since the lockdown.

Banganga Tank

The tank built in the 12th century which is adjacent to a temple has been a popular cultural hub and a source of inspiration for artists. With the lockdown in place, not many people have been visiting the structure. 

Crawford Market

One of the busiest markets in Mumbai, the Crawford Market has been a haven for bulk shoppers looking for the best of items in cheap prices. The lockdown brought a temporary full stop on the sales here.

Bandra-Worli Sea Link

Another of the city's symbol after the Gateway of India, the Rajiv Gandhi Sea link, popularly known as the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, has been helping motorist save time while helping them reach the other side in five minutes. The stretch is empty with no motorist travelling due to the lockdown. 

Bandra West station

The railway station, usually filled with auto-rickshaw waiting to ply passengers to the destination, has been empty since the lockdown was imposed.

Western Express Highway

The highway that usually shows sight of a bumper-to-bumper traffic jam at peak hours has had very less traffic due to the lockdown.
