The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) star performer, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, said the party's second success story was a strong public response to the opposition that conspired against his government when it was fighting the pandemic and corruption.

"Nationalism, development and good governance have won. The people of Uttar Pradesh have won today," he said while addressing party workers at BJP's state headquarters in Lucknow on Thursday. "Modi ji is a global leader. Not just the country but the world had their eyes on UP which is the most populated state," he said.

‘Caste divisions demolished'

Crediting the success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and janata ka aashirvad for the party win in four states, Adityanath said the results in UP have demolished caste divisions and family politics. "Modiji has restored UP's pride. I thank him for giving UP time and resources. He constantly guided and supported us in taking the mission of ‘sabka saath sabka vikas' ahead. We will take this agenda to newer heights and continue with good governance and development," he told a cheering crowd before heading to New Delhi. He also thanked the leaders who campaigned in UP.

Coming down heavily on the Samajwadi Party, he said that the results have defeated disinformation about the polling (EVM rigging). "These are the people who conspired against us when we were fighting the pandemic and corruption. But the people of UP have responded to these people very strongly," he said.

Yogi said UP was the only state wherein two crore homes were given toilets, 1.45 crore people provided with electricity connections, 10 crore people were insured and 15 crore families given free ration during the BJP regime.

"The seven-phase election was held very peacefully. The election commission, administration and police deserve thanks because they worked efficiently despite the coronavirus threat," he said while sharing the success with his cabinet colleagues, party office bearers and workers.

CM breaks Noida jinx

It was believed widely in UP that a CM who visits Noida does not return to power. Former CM Akhilesh Yadav is reported to have avoided visiting the city and whenever he was needed there for a government function he went to the Noida neighbourhood instead. But Yogi Adityanath broke the jinx by visiting the swanky commercial hub several times in five years. It is said the myth started in 1988 when Veer Bahadur Singh lost his seat after a Noida visit, as did his successor ND Tiwari, who exited after travelling to Noida. Kalyan Singh and Mulayam Singh Yadav went through the same experience. Rajnath Singh chose to inaugurate a flyover in Noida from New Delhi.
