On Friday morning, the Thane Municipal Corporation conducted a deep cleaning drive in the Diva ward.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Prashant Rode actively participated in the cleanliness drive. The initiative commenced at Shilphata-Mahape Chowk, where Rode himself took to the streets, setting a precedent for civic responsibility. He also inspected the progress of the drive in the area.
According to the Thane Municipal Corporation, the campaign, orchestrated under the directives of Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, aims to address the persistent issue of urban waste and promote effective waste management.
Additional Commissioner Prashant Rode, along with Deputy Commissioner (Solid Waste Management) Tushar Pawar, Assistant Commissioner Akshay Gudde, Health Officer Dr. Rani Shinde, and others, participated in the deep cleaning drive.
The drive's scope extended beyond mere surface cleaning; it encompassed main roads, inner lanes, chowks, and road dividers. In an attempt to beautify and sanitize the streets of Thane, the Thane Municipal Corporation has launched this comprehensive cleanliness campaign, hashtagged #deepcleandrive.
Additional Commissioner Rode issued a stern directive to address the longstanding problem of shopkeepers discarding waste directly onto the roads. He emphasized the need for stringent action against such practices, which contribute significantly to urban blight.
After the street cleaning efforts, Rode conducted an inspection of the drainage systems in Diva, Mumbra, and Kalwa. This inspection is crucial with the approaching monsoon season, ensuring that the city's drainage infrastructure is prepared to handle the seasonal deluge.
Earlier, in April, Mumbai's intensified sanitation delivered huge results, with authorities collecting an astounding 122 metric tons of garbage, 21 metric tons of bulk waste, and 66 metric tons of debris.
The Deep Cleaning Drive, coordinated by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation commissioner and administrator Bhushan Gagrani, involved 1,403 workers and employees. A total of 336 km of road were carefully cleaned, first by brushing and then washing with water.
Municipal Commissioner Gagrani personally monitored the sanitation operation, which began on Captain Prakash Pethe Marg in Colaba and extended throughout Mumbai and its suburbs. He spoke with sanitation personnel, outlining their daily routines and addressing any issues they raised.
The initiative was a success, as locals expressed satisfaction with the deep cleaning efforts, which included minor streets, waste collection, and other cleanliness operations around Mumbai.
