Thane: Stolen, missing items worth Rs 1.41 crore recovered and returned to owners by police

Police in Ulhasnagar town of Maharashtra's Thane district recovered various stolen and missing items, including gold ornaments and vehicles, and returned them to their rightful owners, officials said on Saturday, reported news agency PTI.

This property, collectively worth Rs 1.41 crore, was returned during a function held on Friday, a statement released by the Ulhasnagar police said, reported PTI.

The items had been stolen or had gone missing in 2022 and 2023, they said.

Gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 44,58,625, cash worth Rs 6,16,620, fifty-four vehicles, including cars and two-wheelers, worth Rs 40,37,000, were returned to their owners. A total of 323 stolen mobiles worth Rs 42,03,049 were also returned, the police said, reported PTI.

The rest of the items were worth Rs 8,82,050, they said.

The areas from where these items had been stolen included Hill Line, Vitthalwadi, Ambarnath and Shivainagar, they added, reported PTI.

Meanwhile, Police have registered cases against eight persons in Navi Mumbai for not informing the authorities, as is required under the law, while leasing out their flats or houses to tenants, an official said, reported PTI.

A first information report (FIR) was filed under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) against the eight persons, who gave their houses in Ulwe on rent, the official of NRI police station in Belapur said, reported PTI.

These cases of house owners not furnishing information about tenants to the police were detected on October 6 during a special operation, he said.

The offenders were identified as Pushpa Rathod, Kiran Rathod, Choutubai Koli, Balu Gajge, Ashok Jankar, Ashish Dheer, Aparna Jondali and Sameer Dawood Khan Deshmukh, the official said, reported PTI.

In another incident, two persons were arrested and a minor was detained for alleged possession and transportation of beef worth Rs 1.67 lakh in separate seizures in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Saturday, reported PTI.

Some persons were caught unloading beef from a tempo at MHADA colony in Bhiwandi town around 5 am on Friday, an official said, reported PTI.

The police seized 200 kg of the meat, worth Rs 1.2 lakh, from the tempo and arrested its driver Mohammad Avesh Karimullah Ansari (26), he said, reported PTI.

An offence has been registered with the Nizampura police station of Bhiwandi division, the official said.

Similarly, the police intercepted a two-wheeler in Kacheripada area on Friday morning and caught a meat shop owner and a minor boy transporting 75 kg of beef, he said.

Juned Kallu Qureshi (19) was arrested for possession of beef worth Rs 47,000, while the minor was detained, he said, adding that a case has been registered against them at Shanti Nagar police station, the official said, reported PTI.
