As many as 49 new cases of coronavirus and one death due to the disease have been reported in Maharashtra's Thane district, according to a health bulletin on Tuesday.

With the addition of the latest cases and death on Monday, the infection tally in the district, which is part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, has gone up to 7,44,504 and the fatality toll to 11,959.

There are currently 731 active COVID-19 cases in Thane, he said, adding that the count of recoveries has reached 7,32,518.

Mumbai on Monday recorded 66 fresh cases of Covid-19, raising the tally of infections to 11,49,115, an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said.

The toll remained unchanged at 19,725, while the count of recoveries reached 11,28,381 after 128 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, the official added.

With a recovery rate of 98.2 per cent, the city currently has 1,009 active cases, the official said.
