Accused Mohammad Abdullah Shaikh
Fifty-year-old Mohammad Abdullah Shaikh has been sexually assaulting his 13-year-old daughter for the past eight years. After facing murder threats from her husband for years, his first wife finally gathered the courage to approach the Mumbra police and register a complaint against Shaikh when he raped his daughter once again on January 4. Thereafter, the cops registered a case and arrested the accused. After being produced in court, he was sent to police custody till January 22. However, during interrogation, the accused even confessed to have killed his fourth wife. The cops are trying to gather evidence in the matter and investigating the case further.
Murder threat
According to the police, the complainant, who is Shaikh's first wife, has been living with him and five of his children (two from his second wife), at Amrut Nagar in Mumbra, for the last 15 years. "When the victim was 10-year-old, she first complained to her mother that Shaikh was sexually assaulting her. When the woman confronted her husband, he threatened to kill her. He had also told her that his community allowed him to have sex with his daughter," said a police officer.

Around 9.30 pm on January 4, when he raped his daughter again, her mother approached the police and filed a complaint in the matter. A case has been register at Mumbra police station under sections 376 (2) (I), 504 and 506 (2) of IPC and relevant sections of the POCSO Act, 2012. "We registered a case against the accused on January 14 and produced him in court the following day. He has been remanded in police custody till January 22. A medical test of the accused has also been conducted. Further investigation into the matter is on," said Poonam Chavan, sub-inspector, Mumbra police station.
Fourth wife killed?
In her statement to the police, the accused said that she converted to Islam 15 years ago and since then she has been living with Shaikh. She also claimed that her husband had married three other women, of whom two left him. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a police officer said, "He confessed to have killed his fourth wife, but we are still gathering evidence in the matter. No missing complaint about the woman has been registered with us."
