With the minimum temperature dipping to 13.8 degrees Celsius, the city experienced the coldest day of the season on Sunday. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Santacruz observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 13.8 degrees Celsius, which is four degrees below normal, while the Colaba observatory recorded 16.2 degrees Celsius.
On Saturday, the minimum temperature recorded at the Santacruz observatory was 15.2 degrees Celsius, while Colaba recorded 17.4 degrees Celsius. The mean maximum temperature for January is 31.1 degrees Celsius, while the mean minimum temperature is 17.3 degrees Celsius.
Last year the coldest day in Mumbai was recorded on January 10, at 13.2 degrees Celsius. The lowest minimum temperature of 2017 was 11.9 degrees, which was measured on January 12. On January 22, 1962, the IMD in Mumbai reported its coldest winter day in history at 7.4 degrees celsius.

According to the IMD's forecast, the temperature will remain around 13 to 14 degrees celsius on Monday. In the coming week, the temperatures are expected to rise one degree every day but are still expected to remain at 20 degrees Celsius at least up to January 21, as per IMD forecast.
"In the next three to four days, we don't anticipate much of a change - maybe a degree or two. Then, it will gradually start to rise once more gradually. As of right now, we do not anticipate a further drop in temperatures; the rest will depend on the weather system," said an IMD official.
