Union Minister Narayan Rane, who was arrested and later released on bail for his comments against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, filed a petition before Bombay High Court to quash an FIR registered against him by cyber police station, Nashik on August 24. Rane, in his petition, also prayed before the court to pass interim orders against coercive action.

The Union Minister in his petition also said that the series of FIRs registered against him is nothing but harassment by the state government. Rane will be represented by advocate Aniket Nikam and Satishmane Shinde. The court is likely to hear the matter on Wednesday.

"We are yet to receive copies of the FIRs lodged in Pune and Thane. We are seeking protection in all cases that may emanate from the alleged press conference," Maneshinde said.

Rane was arrested by Ratnagiri Police on Tuesday over his remark against Thackeray and was later released on bail by a local magistrate court in Mahad. The court while granting bail said that his arrest was justified but his custodial interrogation was not necessary.
