Chirag Bhupatrao Doshi
A 30-year-old visually challenged man was targeted by a woman thief in the differently abled compartment of a train between Churchgate and Marine Lines railway stations on January 1.
According to the police, the complainant, Chirag Bhupatrao Doshi, followed the accused for a while but failed to catch her. The Churchgate railway police have registered an FIR in connection with the case and are on the lookout for the woman. The incident was, fortunately, recorded by CCTV cameras at Marine Lines station.
Doshi, a statistician and Kandivli resident, told mid-day, "From birth, I've only had 25 per cent vision. At night and in the dark, I can't see anything. Around 12.45 am on January 1, I caught a train at Churchgate station. A woman around 45 years old, also entered the differently abled compartment. She sat next to me."
He added, "The woman snatched my bag, which I had placed at my side, after the train started moving. She then removed my wallet from the bag. I tried to get it back from her, but she refused to let go. I tried to subdue her but failed. When the train halted at Marine Lines station, she immediately alighted and dashed off.

I asked for help but no one came forward. I tried to chase her a bit but it was dark outside the station and I couldn't see a thing. In my wallet, I had Rs 10,000 cash, debit cards and a list of many important contact numbers."
Doshi then approached the stationmaster. However, he was instructed to go to Churchgate station. The police there told him that they were busy as it was New Year's Day and to come the following day.
Doshi, accordingly, visited the Churchgate railway police station on January 2 and registered the FIR. A police officer said, "We have registered an FIR under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code. The woman was captured by CCTV cameras at Marine Lines station. We will arrest her soon."
