Rohan Karkada's family is overwhelmed by the generous response of mid-day readers
His family, anxious about arranging funds for his prosthetic arm, was pleasantly surprised with the overwhelming response of mid-day readers, who have come forward and donated Rs 30,000 so far.
On December 22, the Andheri resident was travelling in a local train to Bandra, when he fell in the gap between the train and the platform due to overcrowding. While his arm was brought in a box of ice to Bandra's Lilavati Hospital and reattached by doctors, he soon developed infection and it had to be amputated.

mid-day's report on May 28
"After mid-day reported about my son's plight, we were overwhelmed with the support from people who called and offered to donate for his prosthetics," said Ranjan Wilson, his father. The Karkada family is now deciding on the type of prosthetic arm Rohan can use and the costs involved.
"While we have received Rs 30,000 so far, we have approached a few more donors and will get an estimate for prosthetics after consulting doctors," he added. Rohan is currently undergoing physiotherapy sessions and is looking forward to leading a normal life again. His father, a real estate agent, had to spend nearly Rs 15 lakh on his hospital treatment. He hopes that through donations he will be able to afford an advanced prosthetic arm for his son.
