The body of the hyena was found with injuries to its mouth and head
After a video of a striped hyena attacking a person walking on a road in Khed, near Pune, went viral on social media, the dead body of the animal was also found in the area. Wildlife and nature lovers have demanded a proper investigation into the case as they suspect something fishy about the entire incident, and there could be a chance that the animal was beaten to death. The post-mortem report states that it died due to injures to the head and mouth.
In the viral video, a villager is seen attacked by a striped hyena. Another passerby hits the hyena with a stick, and after a few seconds, the hyena runs away. Later, the forest department found the dead body of the animal. Along with the theory that the hyena was beaten to death, some people even discussed that it was possible that the hyena could have been bitten by a dog earlier. If the dog was suffering from rabies, it could have led to the hyena's aggression.
Official speak
A Forest Department official requesting anonymity, said, "We cannot say that the animal died a natural death. We can see in the video that a person was beating the hyena in order to save the elderly person and later the same hyena met with an accident and died. The post-mortem report also states that it had injures to its head and mouth."
